Primary Responsibility
Deliver on the promise. Make the future awesomer.
Ultimately, Creators are solely responsible for fulfilling and delivering any campaign obligations.
The enforceable contract for campaign deliverables exists exclusively between pledging Fans and the Creator who receives or directs the processed pledges.
FanFuture helps facilitate the campaign from launch through pledge processing. Once we deliver or direct the funds per the Creator’s election, all our responsibilities are met.
Obviously, we remain invested in the end-to-end success of campaigns, and we’ll remain available to consult and give Creator’s the benefit of our experience should it be requested.
The Creator Experience
A few things Creators should be prepared to do form a big picture perspective:
- HAVE FUN! Engage Fans, be inspired, shape the future together! Campaigns are designed to be flexible and stress free, so if Creators have a different spin on the project, they can and should throw it out there and see what the Fans think.
- Engage Fans, even if only to thank them for their support and direct them to the Creator’s next planned project. We love successful campaigns, but we also love quality engagement.
- Make tweaks and get creative when approaching a campaign—at the end of the day most Fans will rally behind any project you’re passionate about so long as you involve them. If the changes are minimal and marginal, all Creators need to do is offer a campaign pledge target and deadline to move the project forward. That could even be the existing pledge amount, which would mean the campaign is immediately successful! (in such cases, we still require that campaigns stay live for at least 14 days to continue accepting pledges from Fans)
- Set realistic but lofty goals. It’s perfectly fine to tell the Fans, ‘look I love the idea, but for it to be feasible Fans need to raise $500k in the next 3 months…’ There’s precisely zero downside to setting a ‘I can’t say no at that price’ kind of deal.
So give the Fans a bold target and watch them rise to the challenge. And if they can’t quite meet the target the Creator isn’t bound and the Fans were never charged.
The Nuts & Bolts Creator Details
When it comes down to the brass tacks of dialing in the campaign Targets and reward details, our team will walk you through the process in…well, in detail. But to give you a sense of the scope of things we ask all Creators to consider:
- Build all taxes and reasonable S&H costs into the equation as you price rewards offered.
- Set sufficient funding goals and practical timelines that set the campaign up for success. We always recommend the ‘under promise, over deliver’ method and raising more than they think they could possibly need.
- List all known or anticipated risks that accompany their effort to achieve the goals of the campaign on the campaign page via campaign updates.
- Weigh your Carbon Footprint as you think about various reward options. We’d be MORE than happy to help you calculate the environmental impact as you dial in rewards and our goal is to encourage campaigns to be Carbon Negative form end-to-end. We’ve partnered with NORI to offer Carbon Offsets and if you price these into the original goals and reward tiers from day 1 it’s surprisingly easy to achieve.
- Spread the word. Once on board—or even while debating it—we hope Creators will leverage their own reach on social media to share the campaign and float the idea. #Creatorsgoviral
Creators and Rewards
We get it, not every Creator has the time and energy to tackle a slew of one off rewards. Maybe you’re intrigued by the core premise of a campaign but the thought of creating and delivering and shipping anything beyond the thing itself is daunting.
NO WORRIES! Seriously, your Fans will be thrilled just to get the thing they asked for.
However, with our help we know that a few simple to offer rewards can go a long way toward increasing the success of any campaign.
The Bare Minimum Reward
At a minimum, Creators must offer as a baseline ‘reward’ the goal itself—provided the goal of the campaign was a product, service, or experience that will be commercially available that reward should be priced to reflect the anticipated market rate inclusive of any taxes, and reasonable S&H fees.
*Note, if the product is going to be offered more broadly post campaign, there is a growing expectation in crowdfunding culture that Creator’s should be offering some kind of value proposition to their early backers–like a discount off MSRP or some small exclusive add-on etc.
Next Level Rewards
Beyond the ‘thing itself’ Creators should consider offering their dedicated Fans a range of cool, perhaps even exclusive, rewards that build on the core goal.
These could include:
- signed copies
- exclusive design elements and artwork
- limited editions
- upgraded versions with premium construction components
- exciting experiences, release parties, etc.
- gold plated editions…even Vegas Whales play board games right?
