Campaign IDEA Req. & Restrictions

Big Picture Requirements

As a general rule, campaigns should seek a creative or business decision, rather than a personal one (respect normal personal boundaries), and they should be civil, positive, inclusive and consistent with the brand and spirit of its intended recipient.

Campaigns that are generally negative, isolating or offensive will not be approved by the campaign administrators.

And you’d think it would go without saying, but if a campaign runs afoul of any laws (Federal/State/Local/Natural) or regulations (DEA/FDA/ABC/CBS) then just don’t bother.

Specific Restrictions

Nothing Illegal or Dangerous

We never allow campaigns which are illegal (duh) or run a significant risk of being dangerous to others.

Be Wary of the Red Tape

We also generally push back against any campaigns which involve areas that are strongly or annoyingly regulated by government authorities.

If Founders & Fans want to pursue a heavily regulated campaign, we may first ask that they fund the necessary legal fees to establish a viable path forward that navigates the regulatory hurdles.

Non-Exhaustive List of Campaign Restrictions:

  1. Snake oil.  AKA Any item claiming to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent an illness or condition (whether via a device, app, book, nutritional supplement, or other means).
  2. Contests, coupons, gambling, and raffles.
  3. Energy food and drinks.
  4. Offensive material (e.g., hate speech, encouraging violence against others, etc).
  5. Campaigns which involve live animals will be under great scrutiny to ensure ethical treatment and objective.
  6. Offering alcohol delivery as a reward.
  7. Offering financial, money-processing, or credit services; financial intermediaries or cash-equivalent instruments; travel services (e.g., vacation packages); phone services (e.g., prepaid phone services, 900 numbers); and business marketing services.
  8. Political fundraising, or exchanges ‘of value’ that could trigger campaign finance laws.
  9. Pornographic or other hyper-sexualized material.
  10. Projects that isolate or promote discrimination, bigotry, or intolerance towards marginalized groups.
  11. Drugs, tobacco, nicotine, vaporizers and related paraphernalia.
  12. Weapons, including replicas and weapon accessories.

If you are unsure whether your project involves something potentially illegal, heavily regulated, or dangerous for backers that it is not on this list, please consider contacting us before starting your project to save yourself a headache.
