When does money change hands?
Pledges are ONLY PROCESSED when a campaign is successful.
Pledging does not process, or otherwise hold ANY funds when placed. All Processing of pledges takes place after a campaign has successfully closed–typically within 5 days.
The 6 Month Rule
Processing of pledges may begin without further re-authorization when a campaign is successful within 6 months of the pledge being made.
Any pledge toward a campaign that is successful more than 6 months after that pledge was initially placed may be withdrawn. This is an opt-out provision and the responsibility lies with pledging Fans to monitor campaigns they have pledged to and alert us if they believe they have an eligible pledge they wish to withdraw or alter.
Fans can easily view, and reshuffle their pledges from their profile options under “My Pledges”.
Why do I have to enter a credit card?
We require a valid debit or credit card when pledges are initially placed so that both the Fan community and the potential Creator can be confident that pledges made are genuinely committed and available if the campaign is successful.

STRIPE serves as our processing partner—they alone securely store all accounts entered on the site.
- typically, processing occurs within a week of a campaign successfully closing. Successful closing is determined from the end of the pledge window not from the moment a campaign hits 100% of it’s funding target.
- Pledge transactions will appear as “XXXXXXXXX” on most accounts.
- pledges that fail to process may be attempted more than once before Stripe attempts to contact the owner of the account to try and resolve the issue. FanFuture and/or the Creator may also reach out to the Fan whose pledge has failed to attempt to resolve the issue.
Processing Fees
All processing fees are taken from successful pledges so the end result for Fans is a $5 pledge is simply reflected as a $5 processed charge on their account.
STRIPE typically charges $0.30 per transaction plus ~3% of the total amount.
Currency conversion for pledges from non-USD accounts are handled by STRIPE according to their policies listed on their platform here.
We work with Creator’s to do the math in advance so there is sufficient margins built in to their targets to cover fees and still be comfortably set up for success.

Fee Wrinkles when Reshuffling or Splitting a Pledge
Currently, when an existing total pledge is subsequently split among several rewards and/or direct contributions our site architecture combined with STRIPE’s interface requires that we technically ‘split’ the pledge into its constituent parts and process each separately.
This results in an additional, unavoidable $0.30 charge per transaction and may reflect as several smaller transactions on your bank statement—depending on the financial institution. Again the total pledge amount remains the same for the Fan no matter how it is processed.
Unfortunately, split charges result in slightly less total funds available for the Creator so we encourage Creators and Fans to take steps to minimize this effect including:
- having Creators ‘nest’ their reward tiers to create cumulative escalating tiers so Fans don’t need to select 3 lower rewards, but can instead choose one larger ‘nested reward tier’ that includes all 3 lower rewards etc.
- creating reward tiers at multiple popular price points to minimize multiple reward packaging or to incentivize Fans to simply ‘top up’ their reward to the next incredible tier during reshuffling.
